[ she's been missing for a month. cora doesn't know it for certain, but she can sense something is different about wonderland. it's the smell, the way the leaves crunched differently beneath her feet when she walked out of the woods earlier that day. she can't quite put her finger on what's different, but she knows that the world she had left behind earlier that morning (five weeks ago) has somehow shifted on its axis. ]

[ however, despite her suspicions, cora's not going to bother with the pleasantries. nor is she going to bother to ask. she doesn't do network posts — doesn't see the purpose in them — but she'd been out for a run in the woods. she'd gone out in hopes of pushing herself out of her negative headspace, but has only seemed to dive further in it. ]

Throw a dog a bone. Anyone know any good jokes? Could use a couple. My brother doesn't smile much and it'd be nice to see him :) for once. Or :D if I'm lucky.

[ ha ha. something is off and perhaps it's because derek hale has learnt how to smile. ]

I'm starting to be glad I missed it. Didn't see any floating bits of mansion in the woods, though. That's weird?

[ taking jokes way too seriously since she was born. ]

Because he's blushing. And explaining it does fairly kill the joke.

However, it could be funny to think of just what it would take to embarrass a dog.

[ and he was crushed. stiles doesn't blame him--to have a little shred of your family and then to lose it? it must be horrific. stiles thinks about his mom and tries to pretend it's not so similar, and he sighs. ]

so objectively, you definitely picked a good time to piss out

_{[She's got that hard-bitten air about her. If she has an older brother even more tough than her, though, who can even say what he's like.

This isn't the first time Adam's heard of time moving in weird and whacky ways for people, and he doesn't think anything of it. Nobody's safe from having their memories messed around with, seems like. Adam still finds it hard to believe he could have only been in the Cage for a few years back in reality, when down there it'd been so much longer.]}

You'd be better off asking the old-timers, I haven't had it happen. But that sounds about par for the course.

[ understatement? yes, maybe, but it's something. it's helpful. allison doesn't have an actual family to try and piece together at this point when it comes to siblings, but she can try with everyone else. ]

Did you guys miss the serial killer? Glad I missed it. But not if it cost you one of your stupid lives.

[ because you guys are stupid for dying all the time! she thinks of just ignoring the whole "derek thought you went back home and cried like a little bitch", but it upsets her to think that she's let any of them down because she went for a run and got caught in some weird air pocket. ]

How long was I gone? Don't say "forever".

[ also none of you are stupid. she takes that back. ]

[ if adam thinks it sounds normal, then cora's going to worry just a little less. she's used to weird things, but not being aware of time passing isn't one of them. if anything, time is the one thing she has always kept up with — six years without family. she doesn't want to lose a single second with derek. ]

If you go into the woods, don't go by yourself. Anything weird happen to you? Float around the mansion? Get killed?

[ wow, calm down, logical allison. we don't want any of this logic in here. ]

Would a hug convey all of that? Derek and I are kind of playing … avoid the subject. I feel bad for disappearing on him, even if I didn't mean to. He's been disappointed too much by the family.

[ PETER. ]

[ cora had made a promise to not be like peter, to not disappear like she had done so for six years. it's rare to have a pack reform, even after half of its bones are missing. derek's ohana, and so is allison. to think she's somehow hurt any of them by letting herself get swept up in wonderland's tricks angers her. ]

[ she's already been disappointed. cora doesn't want to ever make anyone feel that ever again. ]

I'm glad to be back. Good to see you're still here. Not floating, thankfully. :P

Makes sense. Just never experienced anything like this before. When you take off, it's not like you go to another world altogether. It's not like going from home to here. You go to another state, you still hear about everything else.

as far as hale family talks go, I'd say yeah.
it's not your fault you left, but I think he'd like to know that even if he couldn't help it you're still safe.
there's nothing any of us can really do when that happens but it's still nice to know when we're back

[ and it's weird to think that allison knows this because she'd be the same way. because she'd be pacing and angry and frustrated until the moment she knew things were possible, maybe, okay.

is that taking too much of a step? maybe. oh well. ]

At the same time, he can't promise to do what she asks, either, since not only does he walk around the forest a lot, he can't guarantee with utmost certainty he won't just walk himself out there involuntarily thanks to a Hell moment. On the bright side? No older brother is going to miss him if he suddenly disappears for a while. He'd disappeared off the face of the Earth for years and no one had given a flaming crap, and they'd known exactly where he was the entire time.]}

I'll keep an eye out.

But aside from killer angels and a serial killer, not much. No new numbers added to the death toll. Welcome back to Wonderland.

[ The Hales take too much delight in schadenfreude, largely because someone out there does the same towards them. Some deity that was wronged by an ancestor, or something, that's decided that they should continue suffering. So of course Derek prefers that humor these days, and any other "attempts" fall short.

Especially when he's too distracted by tracking down his sister, wherever she's tucked herself away now. It's not that difficult, but by the time he does find her he can feel some of the tension that's built up start to disperse. ]

[ adam needs to locate the derek hales of his family, since he seems to be stuck in-between the peter hales. ]

[ it's kind of bad that cora gives out free advice but doesn't follow it herself, huh? she still plans on going out into the woods alone. it's one of the things that make her feel normal … in a completely abnormal place. she thinks she'll start bothering everyone with texts of where she is at all times until someone tells her to stop. even though being reunited with derek (and peter, if he counts, since he's a dark shade of the man she remembers), cora still falls back onto the habits of doing things by herself without notifying a single soul of what she's up to. ]

Thanks. But. Did you just say killer angels?

[ a second text: ]

Type, whatever.

[ if cora and allison weren't united by their love of indiana jones, cora would simply give her a I'll see what I can do. and that's that. but since allison is becoming a friend … one of those good ones, too, cora's finding herself, well, opening up just a little on how stupid her brain works. emotion isn't necessarily a weakness, but it's one that cora had vowed to never destroy her ever again. being rough and tough meant she was impenetrable, that nothing bothered her at all — she's seen that derek's built himself the same way. ]

[ she still finds it confusing, how she had been missing for them, but they hadn't been missing for her. ]

It's stupid. I'm just not used to this. The Derek I remembered cared, but he also cared about basketball. This one …

[ is kind of broken beyond any sort of repair. and she doesn't want to break him anymore. so, she tries to act like she's not bothered, that this entire situation doesn't bother her, and that she's not worried, so he shouldn't be. ]

Was he really worried? I'm worried. I heard Wonderland ended up breaking apart and everyone was floating.

[ then: ]

There's a chance I may have read that wrong.

[ you're killing me, john. ]

:D I wish I could remember jokes. For some reason, the only ones I can remember are ones that aren't very funny. But did you make those up?

[ cora stands — and, rather than reeling it in and doubting herself, acts on instinct. she moves towards derek and envelopes him in a hug. this is what allison had said to do, didn't she? but cora's not doing it because allison said to, she's doing it because she wants to. holding herself back from going after the things she wants has earned her nothing but pain and regret. (she should've thrown peter off the second floor of the abandoned centre where they had thought they had lost derek for good when she had had the chance.) ]

[ allison had told her, in very few words, that falling back into the old habits and wants of an eleven year old didn't necessarily make her less tough. ignoring what her heart wants her to do makes her weak. ]

[ the thing about this, too, is that allison doesn't necessarily see that. she knows cora is a hale, assumes that means she comes with her reasons for the look. reasons for the thick skin and tougher hide. it took longer for allison to accept this from derek just because of past history, but cora? cora she didn't have an issue with. cora she just assumed would let her in when she wanted people to be let in.

and it's not that allison reads their conversations and thinks there, right there, but rather she just keeps it normal. casual. they can be friends, after all. they don't need to complicate it. ]

a lot changes
and while I don't know what happened to derek, I know that who he is now is for a reason
but you're his sister, you'll be able to figure it out

i'm sort of a student of comedy.
i've been learning jokes since. idk, forever.
when i was little i thought maybe i could be a comedian-magician someday.
dunno how likely that is here.
but then again i also wanted to be a ghostbuster, so.

Which Ghostbuster? I wanted to be Annie Potts. Used to like how high-pitched her voice was. But are you a magician? Pull rabbits out of hats? Or was that meant to be a part of the whole comedy thing?
