e x p e r i m e n t #05 (accidental video)

[When the broadcast starts, it goes from silence to the immediate noise of two people screaming, punctuated by the sound of laser gunshots and mechanical whirring. It seems the device is on a side-table, giving a flat view of Ford and Alphys… perched on another table. Alphys is curled up, hands over her head, looking incredibly distressed, while Ford seems to be shooting at something off-camera.]

Oh m-my god, oh my god, we’re going to d-die here, I’m so s-sorry, I didn’t know they were all going to start...

Don’t worry! I happen to have excellent aim.

[All of a sudden, something takes a flying leap up onto the table, and Alphys yells as Ford shoots it down. The ensuing shot causes the device to fall over, revealing the floor is absolutely covered in knife wielding box tentacles, some with multiple arms, some with multiple knives, all running over each other and stabbing the floor, themselves, and the table. Alphys is still yelling. Ford is still shooting. It looks like an absolute catastrophe.]

Maybe we shouldn’t have prototyped them with the basic ability to learn--

Well it w-would have been fine if it was just, y-you know, one of them! They weren’t all supposed to turn on at the same time!

[Suddenly, Alphys turns her head and seems to notice the device, turning herself around and reaching out to grab it, bringing it in close to her and Ford.]

Uh, t-this is totally under control! No need to panic! I d-don’t, uhm, know how long this has been broadcasting, but, it’s f-fine! … And m-maybe don’t come to Ford’s room for, uhm, a little bit, for uh. Reasons.

Is that thing on? Uh, I mean-- Yes! Everything is absolutely, 100% under control. There is no need to worry about anythi-- [Ford cuts himself off and hisses.] Watch out, Alphys! I think it just tasted my blood!!

Oh g-god please don’t let that do anything new.

[And the device blinks off, cutting out the mechanical whirring sounds with it.]

We... m-made them? On accident?

They're not as dangerous as t-this sounds. Promise.

Uh-huh. [Just... give him a moment to stare. Talking lizards don't really exist in Sakia. At least it gives Kay time to realize that these machines aren't quite as mobile as the ones he was thinking about, which actually helps a good deal with calming down.]

You and... the guy shooting at them? What are they for?

[If it's to keep people out of the room, Kay's sure there are far better ways to accomplish that goal.]

Well, we were just sort of... inventing things? S-Seeing what pieces went together and it was kind of funny to watch the first one whirl around. The knife was a joke. A uh, k-kind of bad one.

It just got, uh, r-really out of hand.

[This is what happens when you let science types alone with a closet that will give them anything. A bunch of whirling death tentacles.]
tattooedredheads: (no matter what)

[Neither one has common sense, do they? If you plan to make something like that, at least limit it to one!]

I'd say. And you made them able to learn? [He's not quite sure why they would need such a function, but it sounds like none of this was done with a purpose in mind.] They can't move or open doors?

No, uhm, I don't think they have the, uh, c-correct appendages, really. Mostly they're just falling over e-each other.

[Now he's torn between being annoyed at his overreaction or relieved that the danger is only to the two scientists who created the machines.] I guess that's good.

If you don't mind me asking, what species of lizard are you? [There's a question that Kay would never have believed he'd have the occasion to ask. But he's curious.]

I, uh.. species?

[She has absolutely no idea, my guy. Not many surface animals make it into the Underground and she's no zoologist.]

I'm a monster? So, uh... t-that type?

[personal profile] tattooedredheads 2016-10-27 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
Not really what I meant. [He wouldn't really call her a monster either.] Maybe if you were a komodo dragon, but you don't look like one.

Anyway, nice to meet ya. I'm Kay.

Sorry, uhm, I'm not w-well versed enough on human animals to say, uhm, e-either way. Most monsters are named f-from the biological family or genus as opposed to the, uh, species.

[She's not sure she's ever seen a komodo dragon. It'd be interesting to look up, though.]

But uhm, n-nice to meet you! I'm Alphys.

Most? I take it, er, monsters are common. I think your idea of a monster and mine are different, though. Could you explain what that's about?

[Cause he's getting kinda confused here.]

Well, uh, in my world, there's humans a-and monsters. Humans have different SOULs than monsters, more p-physical, so they can't use magic for the most part, and monsters are made m-mostly of magic, so our SOULs are weaker and less physical. We don't really have the negative c-connotation to the word monster that a lot of human cultures do. It's just the name for our species. Humans are usually, uhm, r-really afraid of us though. But monsters aren't really malicious. You need i-intent to do harm, and it's not really in monster's natures to be hurtful. But humans are a-afraid of us because, uhm, if a human dies, we can a-absorb their SOUL and become... w-well, something really scary. It's only happened once or t-twice in recorded history.

[Wow that got a little longer than she intended. Whoops.]

So, uh, I've g-gotten the impression that it's different here and in a lot of other worlds! Since most worlds, uhm, s-seem to think monsters are mindless beasts that just kill things, which isn't how it is where I'm from at all.

[personal profile] tattooedredheads 2016-11-09 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
Um, yeah. [Ugh. He's just gotten used to the idea of magic existing. Why does he have to wrap his head around a species made of magic now? For that matter...]

How do you know what souls are made out of?

[Now that's... an interesting question.]

Well, uh, monster souls are white, and are inverted from the d-direction of human's. Human SOULs look like hearts with, uhm, the p-point downward, and monsters' have the point up. Plus, human SOULs have a variety of colors based on attributes or guiding features. I've personally observed s-six different colors. In legend, different SOUL colors allowed humans to master different kinds of magic.
