[ she's been missing for a month. cora doesn't know it for certain, but she can sense something is different about wonderland. it's the smell, the way the leaves crunched differently beneath her feet when she walked out of the woods earlier that day. she can't quite put her finger on what's different, but she knows that the world she had left behind earlier that morning (five weeks ago) has somehow shifted on its axis. ]

[ however, despite her suspicions, cora's not going to bother with the pleasantries. nor is she going to bother to ask. she doesn't do network posts — doesn't see the purpose in them — but she'd been out for a run in the woods. she'd gone out in hopes of pushing herself out of her negative headspace, but has only seemed to dive further in it. ]

Throw a dog a bone. Anyone know any good jokes? Could use a couple. My brother doesn't smile much and it'd be nice to see him :) for once. Or :D if I'm lucky.

[ ha ha. something is off and perhaps it's because derek hale has learnt how to smile. ]

even if allison's first thought is wait, does she remember? it's quickly pushed aside by the fact there would be so many more questions if she didn't. the whole tone of the network post would be different. no, as it stands, cora is back and she remembers and it feels like there's a weight be lifted off of allison's chest. ]

Pretty sure Stiles is the joke expert.

[ Stiles is 100% thrilled when Cora flashes up on the network, because she has been gone for ages, and if the emoticons are anything to go by, she still has all her memories. They didn't have that luxury with Scott.

He pretty much throws his phone at Derek's head to make sure he notices, then gathers it back up and eagerly replies to her. ]

Stiles has been trying for weeks now.
If you find a joke that can make me laugh I'll be impressed.
And then the world will implode.

[ The text itself is fairly composed, but Derek is quite honestly freaking out. He basically swats away Stiles' phone as it's throne at him, spitefully glad that he has to go looking for it, and then he takes in a sharp, composing breath.

His sister is back. Cora is in Wonderland and she seems to remember everything, considering the fact that she's not freaking out. The only thing keeping him from launching out to track her down is his mind simply trying to wrap around her return. ]

Have you tried telling him a joke?

You're still pretty funny.

[ cora's beginning to learn that, yes, her suspicions that things had shifted in wonderland while she was out were right. she wonders how she didn't notice. the sky hadn't turned dark to indicate night, nor had the day shifted at all. only minutes, if an hour, had passed since she had walked into the woods and walked out. ]

I went out for a run. Guess I ran out too far. You're acting like you haven't seen me for a while.

[ gotta get some confirmation, though. hours? days? she hopes for hours, that this had been some trick done by wonderland to throw her off kilter. ]

That's a good one. Maybe we should try it sometime.

[ cora wonders how any day passes and stiles doesn't elicit some sort of laughter from someone. she doesn't think she's ever laughed this much in her life — even at jokes that are so simple. she does doubt that derek wouldn't not laugh if stiles had said it, but she appreciates the message between the lines. ]

Followed a hare down a hole. Guess I shouldn't have done that. I went for a run, so you can say I lost my way for a bit.

Are you still ticklish? I doubt it counts as a joke, but at least you'll laugh. And the world will be in one piece. I kind of like it like that. Werewolves and washing machines.

[ cora's getting the idea that she's been gone for some time. she's not sure how long — uncertain if she really wants to know for sure. but the fact that derek's not freaking out or yelling at her for being stupid and reckless is one of two things: (1) good, since she doubts she's been gone for the weeks she has been and (2) bad, because then clearly he's possessed. ]

I don't remember jokes easily. And the two I do know are a knock knock and one about Snoop Dogg. Don't think he knows who he is.

[ Yes, he saw that. ]

I wouldn't know, I haven't been tickled in a while.
But you missed out on the world basically imploding, actually.
So I suppose it'll be fine eventually.

[ God, and here it feels like it was ages ago that Wonderland was literally fragmented into pieces. But now Cora is back and it strikes him just as hard as that had, floating fragments of the mansion everywhere. He shakes his head, clearing it as best he can, and gets up. ]

Where are you?

It actually imploded? You laughed, didn't you?

[ clearly she's missed a lot. it's still difficult to wrap her head around it, the whole idea that derek might not actually be joking. he's not much of a joker, not like stiles, so she can simply assume that what he says is actual fact. cora's not sure how she feels about it, the idea that she's been missing and that she hadn't even noticed she was missing. ]

[ and, damn, she must've been out in the woods for a really long time. ]

Tea room. Not really liking tea.

Everyone thinks it was an event.
But yes, I laughed.

[ If they can joke, then they can make this easier, right? That's Stiles' way of coping, typically, and maybe he'll start borrowing it more often. Especially if his little sister is going to go off and disappear after being sick for so long. Is she better? Did she go back home and slip through time the same way the others had in the past?

He doesn't know, and it's worrying him more than would like to admit. But at least she remembers this place. ]

It's not all bad.

[ a joke? but cora doubts it's one of those ha ha i'm being funny to make you laugh sorts of jokes. those don't exactly exist within the hale skill set. the kind of jokes she's used to receiving and giving are usually at the expense of someone else — and they're never intended to be humorous. ]

Next time you do, try not to break the world. I'll set a scone aside for you. ;)

[ cora shifts in her seat and stays put. she doesn't particularly have any desire to run away for now. ]

A bone, you say? Well, I just might be able to oblige. The funny thing about years of traveling back and forth through time and space is that you do pick up some rather good jokes.

Did you know, I've been reading a book about anti-gravity, and it's quite impossible to put down.
