[It’s taken Hook a while to type out the message. What business do letters have being in some strange, nonsensical order? What sort of alphabet goes from Q to M instead of A to Z? It’s bloody confusing, but he’s managed, at last, to type out his message on the automatic writing mechanism he found in his pocket. It seems to have some sort of magical ability to show images and produce sounds too, but he has yet to figure those ones out.

The message is short and a bit stilted. He’s not used to having to hunt so hard for each letter, and finding advanced punctuation or capital letters is beyond him. But it gets the point across.]

to whom it may concern ive found myself on strange shores and could use information should it be available. the name is captain hook. im supposed to be in new york. does anyone know how to get there? i need to find emma swan. it is very important. sincerely, hook

[Hook's face immediately shifts. He looks wary now, hand going immediately to the pommel of his sword, though through the screen it wouldn't be a very exciting fight.]

A demon, are you? What do you mean by that?

[ Crowley rolls his eyes. He's getting a little tired of explaining things that should be obvious. ]

I'm what happens when a human soul goes to Hell. I'm a perfectly nice demon, though. Don't worry.

[Considering Hook's fairly certain his soul will go to hell someday, he probably shouldn't be so judgmental. But it's never stopped him before.]

What's perfectly nice look like in a demon?

Like me.

[Crowley smiles in a way that is neither warm nor nefarious. It's almost human. Almost. ]

Do you even know what a mean demon looks like?

[Hook's face is grim, haunted.]

Aye, I've encountered more than my share.

[Though he generally is a bit looser with the definition of demon than someone whose soul went to hell and shows up as black smoke. Rumplestiltskin and Pan may not technically be demons, but Hook doesn't really care to get into specifics. They're close enough to qualify, at least.]

So have I.

[ Though he's not so sure that this man has faced real demons. He looks more like the sixth member of My Chemical Romance than a pirate who fights children.

In a split second, he's smiling again. ]

But that's not what I am. You'll find me to be perfectly helpful and friendly. We're all stuck here together, so we may as well work together for the common good, right?

[Hook scoffs. He might have played the hero a bit more often than usual lately. Which is to say at all. But he's certainly not here to help everyone. He won't complain if he does, but it's far from his goal.]

Who says the common good is what I'm after?

More of a capitalist, then? You'll do well to learn that around here, the common good is in your best interest.

[ That is to say pretend, you moron, but if he can't read through those lines, that's certainly not Crowley's problem. This place requires allies and Crowley learned early on that he wouldn't get them running about murdering and stealing. ]

[Hook reads between some lines, for sure, but hardly the right ones.]

Is that a threat? You'll find out, mate, that I'm quite good at dealing with demons when the situation calls for it.

It's a friendly warning. I don't care if you want to alienate people.

[ He shrugs. Honestly, his threats are far less vague and far more frightening. ]

It's up to you. I'm just trying to be helpful.

Why? You don't know me.

Any friend of Emma's is a friend of mine.

[ Sort of, anyway. ]
