[Castiel very rarely makes use of the network, but now he's had some time to evaluate what's taking place here and given the epidemic that's taken over the mansion since yesterday, he's got no choice but to say something.

Is this his fault, or Dean's, or Sam's? There's no way to be certain, but Castiel chooses to take the initiative with issuing an explanation. He would rather the others didn't draw attention to themselves.

He's seated in a room (the room Dean once occupied, which Castiel mainly uses for storage), cross-legged on the floor, with a burger in one hand. The area around him is scattered with wrappers, so it's clear this isn't his first one.]

This event is one that belongs to my world. [He takes a bite of the burger and keeps talking around the food.] We're all being influenced by Famine. He is...

[He pauses, his expression slowly shifting to one of confusion as he stares toward the ceiling, searching for a word that isn't there. He'd felt disoriented early yesterday morning. Something was taken.]

He's a powerful demon that's able to inspire Famine in any creature. This can manifest in a number of different ways. [His is actually rather mundane.]

Anything you may crave, any addiction you may have, it will be pushed to an extreme level. If you suspect that you could become dangerous, I would advise that you have someone restrain you to save you from yourself. [Not that it had worked with Sam the first time around.

Castiel takes another bite of the burger, finishing it off in one go. He doesn't seem to care that he's talking with his mouth full.] If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

[With that, he ends the feed and then sends a text message to Sam Winchester:] Where are you?

Are you trying to argue with me for the sake of arguing or is there too much wax in your ears?

[ She doesn't figure it matters much anyway. Appeasing and winning over an angel isn't high on her list, or on it at all. ]

I'm a realist, Tail Feathers. You can pretend everything is peachy if he's under lock and key in another dimension, but as long as he's here, he's a threat. And you're sure not going to do Sam much good if you don't realize that.

[This isn't the way Castiel had expected for Ruby to approach this. Does she truly think that Castiel is going to believe anything she says? He knows what her true goal had been, how she'd been leading Sam along that whole time to get what she wanted.

Now she has it here, so the idea that she has any kind of concern for Sam is ridiculous.]

Of course I realize that. But I know that you've been searching for your "father's" approval this entire time. [He does make the air quotes, he's gotten better with those.] That was your goal all along, so you don't need to act as if you're bothered by his presence here.

[Lucifer would no doubt put Ruby to use, which made her even more of a threat than before.]

[ No, she doesn't. But at the end of the day, she's not really saying it for Castiel; she's saying it for Sam. It's public, there's an audience, and even when there isn't, no one knows better than her that the walls have ears. Ruby is, if anything, very dedicated when she takes on a cause. ]

You sure seem to know a lot about me. What'd I have for breakfast this morning?

You've been dead for years. I know what's worth knowing.

[They've been over this. Ruby has been clued into that detail already, but somehow it still feels satisfying to rub it in all over again. She may have gotten what she wanted and released Lucifer, but she'd paid for it with her life, and in the end they'd stopped Lucifer as well. She'd failed.]

But not your eating habits. What are you craving?

And that's where you're going to trip over your shoelaces, my friend.

[ But she won't go into detail. If she can instill some latent curiosity and doubt? Then bonus points for her, but she isn't banking on it. Getting off well enough with Gabriel has given her a bit more standing around angels, but sending this one after her isn't something she really wants to do.

And then there's Michael. Who she has avoided since day one. Castiel, in comparison, feels relatively harmless. ]

You know, I'm thinking Arby's. But it looks like you're one step ahead of me.

[Ruby isn't going to give him an inch here. She thinks that she's got the upper hand, no doubt because Lucifer is here as well, but so far all he's seen from her is talk.

If keeping her busy is enough to stop her from getting anywhere near Sam, though, then so be it. Castiel will keep up this pointless conversation.]

I'm not your friend. And I'm not sharing my food with you.

[Find your own burgers, Ruby. Not that he believes that's what she's actually craving, not for a second.]

Oh really? And just when I felt like we were getting along.

[ They're both watching out for Sam, yes, but for totally different reasons. She won't let anything happen to him, she simply can't. And she knows very well she can't serve the same role she had planned do when they already saw her hand, but that is hardly something to stop her from getting close to Sam.

No angel is going to stop her. ]

Don't they teach you manners upstairs? I thought we were supposed to be the vile, selfish ones.

[Demons always feel as if they're getting along with someone, because they're always willing to make nice until they're ready to slide the knife in. Castiel isn't falling for it.]

Manners don't apply to demons.

[Besides, using Sam the way Ruby did to get what she wanted had been a far more selfish act than anything going on in this conversation.

Which isn't to say that Castiel hasn't done some terrible things. He has. But he also never claimed to be pure and innocent.]

[ Pure and innocent? Hardly. She has always owned up to being a demon, but one with a completely different set of motivations. And try as she might, there's something about Sam that is kind of endearing. While her intentions eventually end with Lucifer coming through, it doesn't mean she has to want to cause Sam harm.

He'll come around. There's time. ]

Such widespread racism is a virtue, is that what you're telling me?

[From Castiel's perspective, whatever complicated motivations and maybe even emotions that might go into Ruby's feelings about Sam don't matter when her ultimate goal is to corrupt him and make him like her.]

I've never thought of angels as particularly virtuous.

[It's just that demons happen to be that much worse.]

[ He won't be like her. He will be so much better and then she would follow him to the end of the world. ]

Kinda kills the reputation, don't you think?

We didn't decide on that reputation. Humanity did. Angels are what we've always been.

[Castiel doesn't have any intention to apologize for that, either. At least not to a demon like Ruby.]

Looks like we've got a lot to live up to.

[ Angels > Demons in in the asshole department, that's what she's implying. ]

I'm sure that my brother taught you well.

[No, demons are the worst, the absolute worst. Castiel realizes it's pointless to have an argument like this, but every moment that Ruby's talking to him is one that she's not bothering Sam, and so he endures it.]

Yeah, you know, that whole "locked in the cage for eternity" thing kinda makes it for the Grand Puba to talk to his people. Not really a good way to rally the masses to your cause, if you ask me.

Then why were you so determined to release him?

Wrong me, Tailfeathers. Did you miss the memo?

Not a wrong you, just a future you.

[She won't convince him otherwise.]

Sounds like those are one and the same from what I keep hearing.

[ Thankfully Sam is the only one that needs to believe her, but casting doubt on everyone else is helpful too. ]

It may seem wrong to you now, but that doesn't alter what happens in your future.

[They've all already lived it. That means there's no changing it now. Ruby can try to convince herself and everyone else as much as she wants, but it means nothing.]

Ouch. Sure hope you're not showing the same leniency to poor Sam.

I already know about Sam's future.

He's already lived it. There's no reason he would have to go through it again.
