02 / video - WARNINGS FOR GORE, and Lucifer not giving any warnings for gore
Now before I say anything, I want to remind you all not to shoot the messenger.
[Yes, Wonderland, the angel of light is still amongst you- and is making a rare video appearance on the network. Reasons for this will soon become apparent.]
Dean and I never saw eye to eye, but really-
[He pans the camera around as he speaks and...
Squeamish viewers will want to look away.
Apparently what is on your screen is Dean Winchester. It may be hard to tell, unless you are intimately acquainted with his internal organs.
There is a body strapped upright to a mirror in the ballroom, buck-ass nude and with all its inner parts on display. (ooc: that second link is to a drawing of a pig dissected.) The body has been carefully dissected, and the organs carefully pinned in place so that nothing will fall out. Well. Not all of organs, if you look closely. There's a small gap where the spleen should be.
Others have been relocated. The body is eyeless (they're on a chair in front of Dean) and thumbless (they're down the throat). The lack of blood indicates that someone has taken the time to drain Dean of all blood before setting him up here.
Lucifer doesn't seem to mind sharing all this with the network without a warning. One part of a human is the same as another, right?
Instead of sounding pleased - as one might expect from a being who would like to end all humans - his voice sounds resigned.] I suppose this is humanity for you.

Hell's gonna look like Club Med once I'm done with you.

"Don't shoot the messenger" my ass.

Lucifer.
[It isn't accusatory, but Ned's mouth twitches and he looks distinctly uncomfortable. For this reason, his gaze wanders.]

[He drops the dough.
Dean - his name is Dean, isn't it? the Pie Enthusiast? - is strung up and splayed out like a dissected frog from a grade school science class. Ned feels the bile rising in his throat and he gamely swallows it down.]

but this... this is too neat. it's almost like art. and that's what disturbs her the most. not that dean is dead, because she can handle that (or so she thinks), because death isn't permanent here, right? but because this wasn't just a pointless murder or a monster out for blood — this was planned. this took time. she knows dean has a lot of enemies, but why would anyone want to do something like this?
she covers her mouth and tries not to wretch into her hand. her throat is tight and tears are welling up in her eyes. her voice sounds broken, pathetic, and desperate for this all to be some kind of sick joke. but she knows it isn't, and that's what makes it worse. ]
Dean? Who — Who did this to him? Why...?

Who could say?

[There are some things you just don't anticipate waking up to in the morning, dead bodies being one of them. Evelyn never saw eye to eye with Dean either (because he is something of a dreadful nuisance), but she would never- could never imagine anything like this being done to him for any good reason.
Distantly, she feels as though this horrific tableau - an isolated incident, not unlike the one that took place in the library - is making a statement much the same way Jesse's had. There's no question that Dean has enemies, that he bothers people (herself included).]
What- What happened?
[She's also unsure as to whether or not she can take this man's presence at face value, if there isn't something he's hiding, but in fairness she would have been awfully offended if people thought she had been the one to kill Jesse when she was unlucky enough to find the body.]

When he appears on video, he's working through a tight jaw, but he's mostly interested in talking business. For as close as he could have been to this, time has given him some distance from the eldest Winchester that should prove invaluable in not falling completely apart. ]
Is— Is someone lookin' at the body? Takin' down information 'bout the crime scene? [ He hesitates. ] Someone needs to do that before he's moved...
video;
You'll have to take that up with Ellen. She's sounding a little possessive over the body.
[He has already inspected the body and come to his own conclusions about what happened.]
You knew him?

It takes a few seconds, but she swallows hard and fumbles for it, struggling to keep the phone steady in her hands despite their shaking. She's seen a lot of awful things, both in this place and out of it, and it's not even the first time she's seen Dean die a gruesome death in Wonderland-- but there's something so perverse about the way that he's been displayed. It turns her stomach, even as her heart sinks into its very pit.]
Who--
[As if Lucifer would know, even if she finished that question. As if he would care.]
We can't leave him on display like that. ... it's not right.
[A beat.]
His family will take care of it.

[Buuuuut, this is a foreign Lucifer with very strange ideas and a weird obsession with the Winchesters, so Crowley's honestly not sure whether this Lucifer would get up to this kind of shit or not.]
[He can't just ask outright, though. I mean, it's Lucifer. Sort of his boss. Also the guy terrifies him, as he rightly should. So Crowley has to be subtle about it.]
Humans really are rather creative when it comes to this sort of thing, aren't they? I wonder which one of them did this.
[He doesn't really think it's Lucifer--he thinks it's the serial killer who killed Jesse, Clarisse, and possibly Duke Buckingham--but he needs to be sure.]

Natasha doesn't react with the same horror as many of the others. She's seen worse, although this rates fairly high up there. Instead, she studies what's been done with a clinical eye, serious and detached, assessing.
A message, perhaps? Or there's someone just seriously fucked up enough here to enjoy their craft and want their work on display afterwards. She doesn't know the man strung up and exposed enough to risk a guess at more at the moment.]
Not all of humanity. [She feels a need to point this out, although if this is a representation of any humanity, it's already too much.] So that's Dean, huh?
[Voice]
He corrects himself.] Most of him.

By the time that he sees the message, hours have passed since it was originally broadcast. That doesn't lighten the blow much. Castiel happens to be one of the few people who's familiar with Dean's insides. He'd rebuilt his entire body from the ground up when he'd dragged him from Hell, and so it only takes a single look to recognize his friend.
They've barely been speaking, for reasons that seem so unimportant now.
Castiel tracks Lucifer down, wherever he's decided to locate himself in the aftermath of the announcement. One of Dean's family has no doubt taken the body already, but Castiel can hear about that later.
He stands before Lucifer, for once not keeping any sort of distance between them. Castiel's face is tight from repressed emotion. He won't let Lucifer glimpse any kind of weakness.]
Who's responsible for this?
