Dear Wonderland.

[She says it like she's starting a letter. To all of you Wonderland girls and guys! She's obviously in her room, the wall of pasted-on Polaroid photos behind her, with softly lit lanterns hanging across the surface on thin wires. It's late at night- or rather, it's the wee hours of the morning. Max has no idea how much the old midnight gang of insomniacs still prowls around the network. She used to be pretty active at this time- not so much anymore.]

This is gonna sound kinda weird, but I swear I'm not off my rocker. Maybe groggy and craving for food, but not crazy.

[ Come on Max, stop embarrassing yourself on the network!]

I was just thinking that I would've graduated by now, since it's June. I'd probably be scrambling to find some sort of arts college that I can afford or that I can even get into. [Or not. Spending a year traveling and taking photos sounds great, too, but college seems pretty important.] And it sucks that I don't have school here.

But... obviously a lot of things suck about Wonderland. Nutso mirrors, certain newbies showing up, all kinds of scary mystery type stuff, nasty events. I mean, sometimes it's... just shit. [Like the past few days, for a lot of people. The network's been full of downers. Her brow furrows as she looks to the side, and her mouth curves into a slight frown.] And I'm sure some of us are bringing in a ton of messed up baggage from back home, too.

[She holds up a stack of instant photos, maybe seven or eight. She angles the stack sideways, so only the sides can be seen by the camera. The girl's still a little too shy to show the actual images.] But see this? Each one's a photo of a... a friend I've made here. People I could actually hang out with. [She waves the little stack at the screen, preparing herself for this next admission.] That's more friends than I had- have in my school.

So yeah, Wonderland totally bombs sometimes. But there's some pretty good stuff going on, too. And I know this is gonna be really hard right now, but I want to hear it- what's something you're super grateful for? Something you might never have had if you hadn't fallen down the rabbit hole? [She tries to make it sound like it's fun challenge, smiling timidly at the screen.] Cuz I'm sure you could name at least three things.

Wowser. That was probably a real bummer. [...It's also probably not as cute as it sounds.

Max sounds just a tad wary when she speaks again.] Uh, if you don't mind, why were you being arrested?

I don't mind, it was...actually, I don't think legally he has any ground to stand on.

[Jane frowns just a little, but at herself.]

I lied to him about something. Which was bad, and also not on purpose.

It kinda sounds like he overreacted. Last I heard, lying isn't worth jail time. Unless it's in a courtroom or something?

[CSI isn't a good source material for this, is it? Oh, crime dramas.]

It was an emotional time. I'll give him that. And still didn't feel that great. But at least here there's a chance to not have to....worry abut that right now.

Oh, and actually, I like being able to try as much food as I want, things I've been really curious about whether or not would be good.

[Well that's a pretty abrupt topic change. Max gets the hint, which is fortunate because she can be pretty dense. She smiles.]

Uhm, sushi? Or maybe... tacos?

[Jane's life is so complicated. Maybe one day, Max, but Jane's not going to dump all of that on you yet.]

I don't think I've had either of those yet. But I have had a burrito. Not really the same thing?

Nnno. Just a little earlier someone claimed to have made the beat burrito in the universe. [Which is a really high claim, because burritos are awesome.] With a burger and french fries inside. That's pretty crazy. [Max giggles slightly.]

You should try a taco. You'd probably like it.

[Jane can't help but smile a little at that.]

Oh, something else I want to try is something called...poutine. I saw it on some food show. French fries, cheese, and gravy, I think? Have you ever had it?

I've had fries with cheese and gravy, but I don't think it's ever been called 'poutine.' It's good, though. And it sounds easy to cook.

Where are you from? I'm curious, but you don't have to answer, if you don't want to. I was in New York City before I came here.

[She wants to get to know people here, and not just because Kurt told her to. She never really had the chance to meet anyone good outside of the team except for Sarah.]

Oregon. A few hours away from Portland. What year was it for you?

[Despite how cool it is to meet people from different places and times, Max actually hopes this person is from around 2013 as well. It's nice to meet people from her Earth (at least, she pretends it's the same Earth) as well.]

That's a question I have to get used to people asking. But it's 2015, and nice to meet you Max. I'm Jane.

I have a friend who's moving to Portland soon. She's here, too. Her name is Sarah.

Cool. Oregon's great. Actually the whole Pacific Northwest is just so relaxing and beautiful. [Not that other places aren't beautiful, but Max is admittedly biased.]

Do you like New York?

It's...okay. It's loud? And always busy, but it's not bad. You never have to eat at the same place twice if you don't want to.

[As a place, it doesn't really feel like home, though. Mostly because she doesn't know where home really is or was.]

I think I'd be alright with some place a little quieter and more relaxed.

I lived in Seattle for a while. It was like that too- just always alive and full of lights. But it gets overwhelming. I guess big cities usually are.

[Which is to say she was totally out of her league there.]

You'd like Oregon, then. Or even Wonderland when there's no event going on.

I think the 'no event going on' portion is key.

[Jane does smile though.]

It's not so bad when it's just...quiet. It's actually kind of cool, even. Plus, your video has given me a lot to think about.

[Max can't help but smile back. It's nice to know that she's gotten people thinking- that's sort of what she was hoping for. And it makes her feel relevant.]
